I met Ted in the 7th grade and we remained friends until his death. Ted had a zest for life and always seemed to be behind the wheel of a speeding car. Some of you may remember that his grandfather, R.B. Shannon, owner of the Ju-Cy Pig Restaurant, gave him an orange Dodge Super Bee for graduation from High School. Ted loved his family and his small circle of friends, most of whom he met during his short college career. Most people believed then that you could "catch" cancer so there were many people who avoided him. His last 18 months of life were spent in and out of hospitals, enduring chemotherapy, and surgeries to remove his right lung and right leg. He died peacefully on the morning of March 9, 1973 after fighting an eight year battle. I am a better, stronger person for going through the disease with him and think of him often.
