Biology/Chemistry major at TCU
I joined Dallas Fire Department in 1979 and worked there 29 years, leaving as Section Chief over Special Operations. As Chief of Special Ops, I was Program Director for Texas Task Force 2, an urban search & rescue task force. Upon retiring from DFD, I accepted a position with TEEX Urban Search & Rescue, a state agency and part of the Texas A&M system. I help develop state search and rescue asssets, teach and still respond to major disasters.
UPDATE: March 2011 accepted full time position in College Station as Program Director for TEEX Disaster Preparedness & Response Division. So much for retirement. I commute back to Plano on Weekends and live in my new motorhome just off campus during the week. Yes, there is a new toy in the toybox.
UPDATE: June 2012. Still at A&M but new position as Program Director for Rescue Training Program/Emergency Services Training Institute.
Update: July 2013. Moved to College Station. Continuing work in Rescue Training and responding to disasters.
Update: 2017 Retired from A&M, still responding to disasters as part Of Texas Task Force 1. Living on Lake Travis. We bought a new Motor Home (albeit a small Mercedes style) in August of 2019 and we have gone to look for America, coming home periodically to work.
I actually left Denton at the beginning of my senior year when my dad, Dr. Roy Martin, accepted a position at TCU. I graduated from Southwest High School in Fort Worth but I always identified with my 5 years of friendships and experiences at Denton schools in preference over the 1 year at Southwest.
